Isabel Steffes is a 20-year-old artist and designer currently studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They specialize in designing queer and music-inspired works of printed media across many different mediums such as screen printing and risography. Although they come from a design background, Steffes has also worked in fibers, comics, and sound. By blending elements of visual communications into more tactical mediums, Steffes’s work expands upon the traditional limitations and structure of design. The use of playful patterns, textures, and graphic iconography brings the nuance of graphic design fundamentals into new artistic spaces. Steffes touches on themes such as the significance of community, navigation of the world through a queer lens, and the youth perspective on social media. The use of a wide variety of mediums utilizes the directness of design to convey their personal perspective in limitless combinations. Alongside traditional art, Steffes also works in radio broadcasting, self-publishing, and is the founder of a bi-annual art market.
