Oh, Honey! Pest Control's Here

By David Zhang

David J. Zhang is a interdisciplinary artist hailing from Northern Virginia currently working on his BFA in Studio Art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Using his personal biography and experience, he works with matters of identity, trauma, and intersectionality. Using his background in painting, he combines different materials and space to push the limits of what a painting is.

His creation and art making are inherently intertwined with the healing and processing of his world and personal history. The external thinking and personal development outside his artistic practice influences his artistic interpretation of the concept of what comes next once a moment closes – the story after the story, the unseen quiet after the recorded event., and the processing and digesting of a happening. His current exploration is into the relationships a human has – with its body, mind, nature, and other humans themselves. Interested in the biological and the external, his forms often reflect what a human is outside of the personal.
